Red Card Review: Lolverpool is Fun

Good to be back, I had to go check my transfer kitty and make sure it included more than just my writing fees.

If you didn’t hear, apparently Rodgers’ 20 million transfer kitty included new player salaries, but he never knew. I don’t even need to make a joke to hang on that statement.

Brendan Rodgers said that he wouldn’t have let Andy Carroll go out on loan if he knew a replacement wasn’t coming in, I thought Carroll’s replacement was All-Star Air on a Bosman free?

I wonder if Fox Soccer knows that their Liverpool documentary is actually a remake; just title it 3 Stooges and they’re good to go.

Arsenal managed to beat Liverpool 2-0, with their defeat Liverpool have officially announced themselves as a mid-table team.

Football at Fenway: A fan’s experience

Should have painted the Monstah red.

When Fenway Sports Group, the American investment company that also owns the Boston Red Sox, purchased Liverpool FC in 2010 it was clear that the storied club would be getting a lot more attention in New England.

Early on, some of that attention was negative, with many Sox fans I knew fearing the acquisition would lead to the owners neglecting their duties with the baseball team or being a little more tight with their spending.

But almost two years later, Liverpool came to visit historic Fenway Park in my adopted city, and judging by the crowd and atmosphere little of that initial wariness remains.

FSG and Liverpool did a fantastic job promoting this game and the stadium, which was adorned with some nice touches to recreate a real English football match in Liverpool, was practically full. And I’d conservatively estimate that 75% of the reported 37,169 fans at Fenway were wearing Liverpool gear and not giallorossi.

And despite losing 2-1 to the visiting Italian side, the club and stadium hosted a good match and surely won over some of their newer fans.

Some more details about the fan experience and amateur iPhone photography after the jump.

Déjà Vu: Kenny’s Second Chance

The face of a man who’s lost his marbles.

Interesting news coming out of Anfield this morning: it seems Kenny Dalglish suffered a bit of a mental breakdown following Saturday’s FA Cup loss. The Scottish manager was seen sitting in a corner, staring at the wall and mumbling incoherently. In an effort to prop up his fragile psyche, his assistants have devised a rather amusing plan.

King Kenny has been led to believe that today’s Premier League match against Chelsea is a do-over.

Speaking to an editor for Liverpool’s official web site, Kenny said in his best Glasgow brogue, “I’m delighted the FA have decided to hand us this opportunity to replay the match at home. Hopefully this time the result will be different and we can lift the cup.”

The View From Row Z: DST Ruins Everything

Imagine resetting all of these.

The time change has been hard on me. Besides totally screwing up my sleep pattern and making me late to work the last two days, my oldest kid doesn’t want to go to bed at 8 because it’s still light out, and now I’m missing the second half of every European soccer game this week.

That’s right. Until the folks back in the Old Country get around to updating their cuckoo clocks, most midweek soccer start times are an hour later than normal for us. Which blows if you live on the East Coast and work a 9 to 5 where you can get away with watching soccer in a browser window behind the Excel sheet you’re not actually working on. And what for, anyway? Is it the farmers or the school kids or energy savings or what? I don’t even know anymore.

There’s some moderately interesting Chaaampions League matches this afternoon, the Merseyside Derby, and some cities, forests, and hams battle it out in the NPowership. Match schedule below the jump.
